CoKinetic’s AirPlay IFE Software To Take Flight
In Virgin America’s Revolutionary “Red” IFE System
America’s Next Airline Virgin America to Unveil “the Most Advanced In-Flight Entertainment System in the Sky” -- Powered by AirPlay Software -- This Summer
White Plains, NY – CoKinetic Systems Corporation, maker of market-leading embedded software solutions, today officially announced that Virgin America’s revolutionary in flight entertainment (IFE) system, “Red,” is powered by CoKinetic's AirPlay software. Virgin America received provisional DOT approval to fly in the U.S. this week.
Red is a collaborative effort between the airline and a group of IFE team members that aims to provide passengers with the most advanced in-flight entertainment experience. By using CoKinetic’s AirPlay software, Virgin America gained unprecedented control over their IFE assets and independence from constraints typically found in legacy IFE systems.
“AirPlay gave us exactly what we needed in terms of flexibility to build Red and execute a wide array of entertainment and marketing partnerships. We're thrilled to see our vision come to life and can't wait to see the reaction of our guests." said Charles Ogilvie, Director of Inflight Entertainment & Partnerships at Virgin America. “Working with CoKinetic, we believe we will offer our passengers the best, most advanced and engaging entertainment experience in the air, and continue to lead the market in IFE innovation in the future.”
Typically, IFE hardware vendors dictate the pace of innovation, application development, and content update cycles. By using AirPlay, airlines such as Virgin America gain the ability to independently determine their own pace while retaining all of the features and benefits of the underlying IFE platform. Moreover, AirPlay gives airlines like Virgin America the ability to cultivate and rapidly deploy third party content and advertising deals and the ability to engage independent developers to build customized one-of-a kind IFE applications.
“We see no greater validation of AirPlay than to be working with Virgin America in powering the Red IFE system, given their high standards, passion for progress and commitment to use technology to improve customer service.” said Kris Stevens, CEO of CoKinetic Systems. “We’re extremely excited to help Virgin America break new ground and we look forward to a long and productive relationship."

At the heart of AirPlay is a patent pending distributed computing technology that integrates and harnesses the capabilities of multiple applications and ties them together under a single user interface. Tried and tested in the marketplace, this technology is uniquely suited to IFE because it enables the integration of robust applications with sophisticated graphics and interactive content that can run on virtually any IFE hardware flying in the sky.
About the AirPlay IFE Software Platform
AirPlay enables airlines to make the most of their existing assets and offer the most graphically sophisticated, interactive and stable IFE experience to their passengers, while giving them the power to update and extend their IFE systems at will. AirPlay is being deployed on a number of major airlines planning to offer their customers the most sophisticated IFE systems in the sky.
